With the exponential rise of startups and young entrepreneurs came the need for workspaces to go beyond the traditional “desk and chair” scene, hence, the birth of coworking spaces. Armed with the vision to create a community of young and energetic thinkers and innovators, the client commissioned Micdee to create an elevating coworking experience using shipping containers as the main building material. One major challenge the client hoped to address was the waterlogged site which was a huge consideration in the design of this structure.

The lego system
The different sizes of the containers were arranged using the lego technic to ensure space optimization. The building layout was designed to be adaptable to allow the different workplace functions take place seamlessly while maximising work efficiency and promoting teamwork. In this, spaces were designed to be flexible and adaptable while bearing in mind the need for a collapsible structure that can be relocated.
The idea was to create an assembly of shipping containers in a seamless and aesthetically pleasing manner such that it attracts forward-thinking startups and millennials. An appealing aesthetic approach was required and this was achieved by the stacking and juxtaposition of the shipping containers to emanate different emotions from the users and visitors. Choice of materials and textures was also a key factor in deciding how the entire structure came together.
